Background of the Study
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria. In Borno State, where healthcare infrastructure has been severely impacted by conflicts and displacement, community nursing plays an essential role in the fight against TB. Community nurses are key to raising awareness, improving early detection, ensuring adherence to treatment regimens, and providing ongoing care to those affected by TB.
In Borno State, efforts to reduce TB prevalence face numerous challenges, including limited access to healthcare, poverty, and stigma associated with TB. Community nurses are often the first point of contact for TB patients, providing crucial support in both the detection and management of the disease. This study aims to investigate the impact of community nursing interventions in reducing the prevalence of tuberculosis in Borno State, focusing on prevention, education, and the management of TB cases at the community level.
Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to control TB, Borno State continues to experience high rates of TB infection, particularly in displaced populations and remote areas. While the role of healthcare professionals in TB management is well-documented, the specific impact of community nursing interventions in reducing TB prevalence in Borno State has not been thoroughly studied. This research will explore the ways in which community nurses contribute to TB prevention and control, assessing the effectiveness of their interventions in reducing disease burden.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the role of community nursing in reducing TB prevalence in Borno State.
2. To assess the effectiveness of community-based interventions in the prevention and management of TB in Borno State.
3. To identify challenges faced by community nurses in reducing TB prevalence in Borno State.
Research Questions
1. What role do community nurses play in reducing TB prevalence in Borno State?
2. How effective are community nursing interventions in preventing and managing TB in Borno State?
3. What barriers hinder community nurses in effectively reducing TB prevalence in Borno State?
Research Hypotheses
1. Community nursing interventions significantly reduce TB prevalence in Borno State.
2. Community-based TB prevention and management strategies led by nurses improve patient outcomes in Borno State.
3. Barriers such as lack of resources and inadequate training hinder the effectiveness of community nursing in TB control in Borno State.
